Google Doodle Stocks Up on Vitamin C for Albert Szent-Gyorgyi’s Birthday

Friday’s Google Doodle celebrates the 118th birthday of Hungarian scientist and Nobel prize winner Albert Szent-Györgyi, who is credited with discovering vitamin C.

The colorful doodle displays oranges and strawberries, which both abound in vitamin C. Szent-Györgyi, however, was known to use paprika in his experiments, which led to the discovery of vitamin C.

Szent-Györgyi received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1937 “for his discoveries in connection with the biological combustion process with special reference to vitamin C and the catalysis of fumaric acid”.
