Independence Day Google Doodle Wishes You a Happy Fourth

Google is celebrating the fourth of July — Independence Day in the U.S. — with a bright red, white and blue Google doodle on its homepage Monday.

This particular doodle lacks the interactive panache of recent Google doodles, but it is all things Americana — baseball, the Golden Gate, fireworks, the Statue of Liberty and so forth.

Google revealed its logo-for-the-day via Twitter. “From sea to shining sea, a very happy Fourth to everyone. Click on our homepage doodle for lots more July 4,” the Google Twitter account tweeted, along with a photo of the doodle posted via Twitter’s new native photo-sharing product.

As you may recall, Google doodles date back to 1998 when founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin used the Google Burn doodle to indicate that they were “out of office” at the Burning Man festival. Thirteen years later, Google now has a team of dedicated designers pumping out fresh designs to commemorate and celebrate holidays and historic milestones.
