Academy Award Nominations To Be Streamed Live Online [VIDEO]

If you’re down to wake up early tomorrow, you’ll be able to catch this year’s Oscar nominations live. The Academy will be announcing the nominees for the 83rd Academy Awards online at 8:30 a.m. EST, thanks to Livestream.

Last year saw the first of such instance of announcing Oscar nominees; the event was rather noteworthy, given the scale and pedigree of the awards show.

Now the Academy will be taking to the web with hosts Chris Harrison of ABC’s The Bachelor and Dave Karger, senior writer at Entertainment Weekly, to reveal who is in the running for Leading Actor, Leading Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Animated Feature Film, Directing, Foreign Language Film, Adapted Screenplay, Original Screenplay and Best Picture. Academy President Tom Sherak and last year’s Supporting Actress winner, Mo’Nique, will make the announcement.

You can watch from this post when the stream goes live in the morning.

This webcast is the just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the the award show’s promotions plan, dubbed “Road to the Oscars,” which will include fans crowdsourcing what dresses the trophy escorts will wear, a daily online show titled Road to the Oscars airing on Oscar.com, My Oscar Picks, an interactive game that lets fans weigh in with their predictions, and “Oscar Tweets,” which will provide insider looks into the pre-show activities.

Furthermore, on Oscar night, February 27, viewers will be able to take in the action from all angles, including a “Thank You Cam” from which winners can thank their supporters backstage, a “Backstage Cam,” “Control Room Cam,” and a “Press Room Cam.”

Hardcore fans can get even more access to the show via an “All Access” paid feature (not yet available) on Oscar.com, which will give you more access to video, as well as the “360 Cam,” which lets you control cameras with your mouse.

More and more we’re seeing major award shows embracing social media — The Grammy Awards’ campaign springs to mind — and we’ve even seen such campaigns help boost ratings. It will be interesting to see how many people choose to engage with the proceedings this time around.

Will you tune in to the nominations tomorrow and follow the awards all the way to the big night?
